Is it right for you?

Our honest take, based on the published specs and the real-world trade-offs.

What it is

The Razer BlackShark V2 X is a lightweight wired gaming headset with 50mm drivers, 7.1 surround sound, and memory-foam ear cushions. It is the entry point of the BlackShark line, built for PC, PS4, PS5, and Switch over a standard 3.5mm jack. At around $31 and up, it is one of the cheapest ways to get a recognizable gaming-brand headset with a boom mic. The design is intentionally light, so it disappears during long sessions.

Specs that matter

The 50mm drivers deliver a wide soundstage for the price, with a tuning that favors footsteps and explosions in games. 7.1 surround is available through Razer software on PC and is virtual, not physical. The memory-foam cushions are plush and seal out noise reasonably well, and the whole headset is light enough to wear for hours. It connects via a 3.5mm jack, so it works on anything with a headphone port, but there is no wireless and no USB. The detachable cardioid mic rejects room noise well.

Who it's for

This is for gamers who want a cheap, comfortable, platform-agnostic headset โ€” especially on console where a 3.5mm jack is all you need. It suits long sessions thanks to light weight and soft cushions, and anyone who wants a clear mic for party chat. It is also a sensible backup or travel headset because it needs no charging and no dongle.

Trade-offs to know

It is wired only โ€” no wireless freedom, and audio quality depends partly on your controller or device headphone jack. The mostly-plastic build keeps weight down but feels less durable than metal-frame headsets. Some versions skip an inline volume and mute control, so check the bundle. The sound is tuned for gaming, not neutral music listening, so it will not replace a good pair of studio headphones.
